The many viaducts located in Redondela are the reason why the city is known as The town of the Viaducts.
The Pedro Floriani viaduct (Madrid viaduct) is 318 m long and was built following the model of the Eiffel Tower. It was opened in 1876 and was part of the Vigo – Ourense line. Currently it is not used anymore.
The Pontevedra viaduct has a length of 250 m. It was built in 1884 to connect the Vigo – Ourense line with Pontevedra. Its main segment is made of metal while granite masonry is used on the access parts. It is still operative and used by the Vigo – Pontevedra railway line.
Both viaducts (19th century) have been named Cultural Interest Assets of Spain.
