Meirande. Centro de Interpretación de Rande
The ría (‘estuary’) of Vigo hides a wealth of secrets, riches and treasures from the several naval battles between fleets aiming to loot each other’s cargo. An old cannery from 1944 was restored to remember, protect and promote this hidden heritage. It is known as the 'German’s Factory' because it was acquired by a German man residing in Bilbao after his collaboration with the Nazis during World War II.
The centre displays not only archaeological and cultural treasures from the Battle of Vigo Bay, but also some of the industrial and historical heritage of Rande. A series of rooms recreate the time period, the goods and the battle, as well as some elements of the canning sector, with perfect views over the Rande Bridge in the heart of the cove of San Simón. It aims to provide information on the great artistic, social, cultural and landscape wealth of the area.
