Mirador de A Virxe da Rocha
The Virxe da Rocha (Virgin of the Rock) statue is one of the best-known monuments in the municipality of Baiona. It was built in granite by Antonio Palacios, a renowned modernist architect from Porriño, and placed on the rocks of Sansón hill.
The statue was inaugurated in 1930 and is 15 metres in height. It depicts the Virgin holding a ship in her right hand, where the viewpoint is located. It is accessed from an interior stone spiral staircase. Her face and hands, sculpted by Ángel García, are made of white marble, and her crown was made of porcelain. The purpose of the statue was to be a reference point for seafarers, which was clearly achieved. This overlook offers incredible views over the Atlantic Ocean for visitors to enjoy.
